No matter when or from where your Canadian relatives first arrived, they were surrounded by people of different cultures. Unlike the barriers of language, people from nations such as Ireland, France, Germany and Russia were able to create bonds through music played often on fiddles. The melding of these traditional forms, combined with the influence of indigenous interpretation, became our Canadian style of fiddling. The expression of this style of music is our unique dance form. When people were together enjoying the music they created a common vibrant and unique cultural experience that dissolved differences and created unity.
Many times we have heard about “generational differences”. The positive experience of our ancestors during the original rise of our traditional music is being repeated each time we hold our event. Differences are broken down. Common experiences are valued. There are less things that divide all people who perform and attend our events than divide them. We ensure that our culture is preserved through shared experience.
We are very proud to host a celebration of National Fiddling Day!
